The Potteries scoops Nurse of the Year award

Home news

A member of the care team at The Potteries care home in Broadstone, Poole, is celebrating after scooping the ‘Nurse of the Year’ award at Care UK’s annual awards scheme.

Clinical lead, Lacey Travers, from Poole, beat off competition from professionals at over 100 care homes across the UK to be presented with the prestigious Nurse of the Year accolade at this year’s RCS Stars ceremony.

The awards recognise and reward individual and team excellence across Care UK’s Residential Care Services (RCS) division. The panel of judges, which included RCS chief executive, Andrew Knight, praised the impact Lacey has made since joining The Potteries.  Judges also acknowledged how Lacey has implemented new ways of working which have helped with the smooth delivery of care at the home.

Zita Turner, home manager said: “Our congratulations go to Lacey for a very well-deserved award win. Not only is Lacey a highly-regarded clinical lead with great leadership skills, she is often seen coaching and encouraging colleagues at The Potteries, and she is always on hand to give advice and support.  Lacey is also committed to providing the highest standard of care and to promoting a person-centred approach, and she is therefore an asset to The Potteries.”

Clinical lead, Lacey Travers, explained how she felt about her award win.  “Putting others first and working well as part of a team really is what caring for others is all about, and you do not expect to ever be recognised for this – so I am completely thrilled and very proud to have picked up this award.  It was also great to see the excellent work of many of my colleagues throughout Care UK being recognised at the ceremony.”

The Potteries is situated at 187 York Road in Broadstone, Poole.  The purpose-built care home provides a range of care services including residential, nursing and short term respite care, as well as specialist dementia care and sensitive end-of-life care.
