Broadwater Lodge was one of thousands of care homes across the UK which took part in the annual initiative aimed at challenging perceptions of care homes, connecting residents with even more people in their community, and developing relationships across the generations.
This year’s event at Broadwater Lodge had a Walt Disney theme, complete with live entertainment, a tempting barbeque and a special visit from a host of reptiles. Residents and visitors had the opportunity to get up close with the creepy critters, including snakes and lizards; and those feeling brave also had the chance to hold the exotic visitors.
Angela Brookham, home manager at Broadwater Lodge, said: “Our doors are always open, but Care Home Open Day was a brilliant opportunity to celebrate with visitors, residents and colleagues alike. We all are proud of the warm and welcoming quality care environment we have created here at Broadwater Lodge, and we took great delight in showcasing our home and all the good work we do here.
“The day was a real success, and everyone enjoyed getting involved in the activities and building on our links with the local community.”
