Frimley home wins seal of approval from national care watchdog

Home news

Care UK’s Whitebourne care home in Frimley, Surrey has been given the seal of approval by a national care watchdog.

At a recent visit by the Care Quality Commission, examining the home against a number of key areas such as safe, effective, caring, responsive, well-led, inspectors were happy to award the home an overall good rating.

During their visit to the home, which provides specialist care for older people, some of whom have dementia, the inspectors talked informally to the team and examined the home’s administrative systems and processes.

Home Manager Ros Stevenson said: “I am delighted that we reached the high standard set out by the Government and CQC and I was even more delighted that the inspectors highlighted how the team works to respect people's dignity and independence.”

The inspectors noted that people told them they were happy with the care they received from staff. Comments included, "Their attitude lifts you up. Always cheerful and prepared to do that little bit extra for you. The staff here are lovely, we're very lucky. Always a smile... they're always asking if there's anything I need. They're wonderful." And, "The staff here are a very caring bunch. They're always prepared to do anything they can to help. I like that. They talk to me, very friendly. They make me a happy lady."

The inspectors also commented that they observed staff interacting positively with people and the atmosphere was calm and relaxed.  Staff chatted easily with people about their family and things they enjoyed. One relative told them, "The staff here are very friendly to my Mum. They're caring and one of the staff especially has gone out of their way to establish a good relationship with Mum. That kind of thing does help a lot."

Ros said: “Everyone at Whitebourne, including the kitchen, domestic and maintenance teams, strives to ensure that we create genuinely individual care for each resident.
“To do that, we ensure we get to know each person, their history and their interests, so that we can tailor each care plan to maintain their independence, life skills and sense of wellbeing.”
