Broadwater Lodge was one of thousands of care homes across the UK to take part in the annual initiative aimed at challenging perceptions of care homes, connecting residents with people in their community, and developing relationships across the generations.
Residents at Broadwater Lodge were joined by the local community for a a summer garden party with a carnival theme. Visitors were entertained throughout the day with a magician and a clown. Eagle Radio was also broadcasting all the action live from the home where they were joined by special guest, mascot Eggbert the Eagle who proved very popular with the younger visitors.
As well as taking part in garden games and activities, guests had the chance to do a spot of shopping at the different stalls. There were also plenty of tasty treats on offer inspired by cuisines from around the world.
Angela Bookham, home manager at Broadwater Lodge, said: “Care Home Open Day is about connecting people and enriching the lives of residents through lasting relationships, so we were delighted to welcome so many members of the local community to this special day.
“Both the residents and guests loved the host of entertainment that was on offer throughout the afternoon, and everyone commented how much they enjoyed the celebration. Overall it was a fantastic day and we look forward to welcoming the people of Godalming to future events.”
