The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) report gave Davers Court an overall ‘good’ rating, following an unannounced inspection.
The home received ‘good’ ratings in all five categories, including safety, effectiveness, level of care, responsiveness and having a well-led service.
Praise was given for the compassion and kindness that each team member showed the residents, and it was observed that people’s privacy and dignity were respected - with one resident commenting that the team always treat them in a “dignified manner”.
The report noted that residents felt safe at Davers Court, one relative told inspectors that their loved one had “settled into life quickly, they felt safe and well cared for.” A resident added: “I am very happy here, I am safe and I think it’s a very nice home.”
Inspectors remarked on the approachable nature of the care team, noting that residents and relatives were complimentary about how they were treated. Residents were able to express their views and were listened to. One resident described the team as being “upbeat and friendly”, another added that they “know all about me.”
There were observations during mealtimes where inspectors noted that the atmosphere in all three dining rooms was upbeat and pleasant – softly playing music in the background created a nice ambiance. The attractively set tables and varied menus were also commented on by inspectors who felt people’s mealtime experience was relaxed and unrushed.
During the visit, inspectors observed a number of activities taking place, including painting pinecones, singing and reading. It was highlighted that there are two main activities a day taking place in the hobbies room, which are outlined on an activities calendar outside the room. One resident also told inspectors about a recent excursion to nearby Felixstowe: “We had fish and chips and the coach took us there, I’d go again.”
Lifestyle coordinator, Anne Norman was recognised by inspectors as being passionate about her work, with the care team overall being praised for their enthusiasm and the way they interact with residents in an appropriate, effective and caring manner.
Wendy Harvey, home manager, said: “We strive to create a welcoming home from home feel at Davers Court, and I’m so pleased our efforts have been recognised by the CQC’s inspectors. Everyone here works incredibly hard to support residents with compassionate, person-centred care, and to be rated ‘good’ shows just how committed the team is to making a positive difference to resident’s lives each and every day.
“I’m extremely proud of our team and I would like to say thank you for their hard work and dedication, which I know is also greatly appreciated by residents and their families.”
Visitors to Davers Court praised Wendy and commented on how she always sought their feedback, and that they were happy with the quality of the care provided. One relative said: “If I needed to be in care, this is where I would chose to come.”
Inspectors noted that people were supported to maintain relationships with loved ones. Relatives explained how they were free to visit their loved ones whenever they wanted and enjoyed spending time in the comfortable coffee lounge, and attractively decorated shop. One resident said: “It’s a community here, my [relative] and I talk to other residents and their families.”
To assess service standards at Davers Court, the CQC’s inspector spoke with team members, residents and their visiting relatives on the day of the inspection. They also reviewed the records and procedures already in place at the care home.
