Hadrian Park wins approval of national care inspectors

Home news

A national care watchdog has given Hadrian Park the seal of approval, with relatives and residents praising its caring and attentive team members.

The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) report gave Hadrian Park an overall ‘good’ rating, following an unannounced inspection.

Hadrian Park’s team members were praised for the level of care each of them showed to residents in their care. Residents felt “safe and well looked after by [the team]”, while one family member thanked them for “the positive difference” they made in their relative’s life.

During the inspection, positive interactions and genuine relationships were observed between residents and the carers, with carers sitting with residents during mealtimes.

The report highlighted that the level of care was tailored to the needs of every patient, promoting independence wherever possible. For example, some areas were adapted and made more accessible with handrails painted in contrasting colours. Residents also had memory boxes containing their personal items outside their rooms to find their way around more independently, as well as dementia friendly clocks that indicate whether it’s day or night.

The report also found that choice was embedded in Hadrian Park’s service ethos, with care tailored to meet every residents’ individual needs. A resident said: “I can sleep when I want, eat in my room and listen to music or go and find someone to chat with – I have made loads of friends here. I feel free.”

In addition to a broad range of activities and trips available, such as singing and a pub lunch club, a lifestyle room was also accessible to the residents and contained a variety of things for people to enjoy, including arts and craft equipment and book reading.

The team ensured that resident’s rooms reflected their personal interests and character. For example, rooms had furniture from their home, ornaments and photo of family members. A resident said: “It’s just like home but with a hotel feel to it!”. Residents’ families were always made to feel welcome as well, with one relative saying: “The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming and it is comforting to leave family in such a lovely place.”

Marsha Tuffin, home manager at Hadrian Park, said: “Creating a welcoming home from home feel, and making sure every resident receives the best possible care is our absolute priority. Everyone here at Hadrian Park works incredibly hard to provide our residents with compassionate, person-centred care and I’m delighted that our efforts have been recognised by the CQC’s inspectors.

“I’m extremely proud of our team and I would like to say thank you for their hard work and dedication, which I know is also greatly appreciated by residents and their families.”

The report also found that Hadrian Park was operating an award scheme called GEM, which offers some recognition to Care UK team members who have gone the extra mile. Every month, the home organises a ceremony where awards are given to the team members who have been nominated by the residents.

To assess service standards at Hadrian Park, the CQC’s inspector spoke with team members, residents and their visiting relatives on the day of the inspection. They also reviewed the records and procedures already in place at the care home.
