The team at Armstrong House welcomed the people of Gateshead to enjoy Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.
The home marked the occasion by throwing a royal-inspired party in honour of the Queen’s 92nd birthday. Armstrong House’s head chef prepared a delicious traditional British buffet, and visitors and residents enjoyed a live performance from entertainer, Stevie Halliday.
Visitors were also treated to a royal fashion show, with outfits from each decade since the Queen was born and music from each era put on by the team and residents.
Shirley Summerbell, home manager at Armstrong House, said: “We had a fantastic afternoon celebrating Care Home Open Day at Armstrong House. The team and residents all had a great time organising the fashion show and trying on historic outfits!
“Care Home Open Day is all about building bridges with our local community, and showing what life in a care home is really like, so it was fantastic to see so many of our neighbours come along to celebrate. We would like to say a big thank you to Stevie Halliday for a fantastic performance, as well as the people of Gateshead, for making the day so special.”
