Harley Davidson riding group celebrates Care Home Open Day with Sandfields

Home news

There was fun for all at Sandfields when it invited the local community in for a day of celebrations, including a special visit from a local motorcycle club.

The team at Sandfields welcomed the people of Cheltenham to enjoy Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.

The home marked the occasion by throwing a royal-inspired party in honour of the Queen’s 92nd birthday. The team organised a traditional outdoor street party in partnership with the nearby Jenna Court retirement development, including a live musical performance from local singers, Tony Minchella and Alex Kelly.

Visitors also enjoyed a variety of stalls selling crafts, food, toys and photography, and the home received a special visit from local nursery group, Little Pips. The day was topped off with a Harley Davidson motorbike display from local motorcycle group, the Rolling Hills.

Deanna Lane, home manager at Sandfields, said: “We had a fantastic afternoon celebrating Care Home Open Day at Sandfields. The residents all really enjoyed marking the Queen’s birthday with a party, and the Harley Davidson display was a hit with residents and guests alike.

“Care Home Open Day is all about building bridges with our local community, and showing what life in a care home is really like, so it was brilliant to see so many of our neighbours come along to celebrate. We would like to say a big thank you to our colleagues and the community members who put so much effort into organising and supporting the event, as well as the Rolling Hills group for making the day so special.”
