Cheviot Court gets official seal of approval and showcases creative talent

Home news

There are celebrations all round, as Cheviot Court scores a seal of approval following a recent inspection and is crowned nationwide winners of a Care Home Open Day challenge.

A national care watchdog has awarded Cheviot Court an overall ‘Good’ rating, following an unannounced inspection, with relatives and residents praising its kind, considerate and caring team members.

The care home received ‘Good’ and ‘Outstanding’ ratings in all five categories of the Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) report, including safety, effectiveness, level of care, responsiveness and leadership.

Inspectors commended the provision of activities and entertainment that are organised for the residents, whereby it was observed that the team had gone the extra mile to find out about residents’ previous hobbies and interests, to enable these to be continued at Cheviot Court. One relative commented: “The lifestyle team does a massive amount of stuff here; it's fantastic."

Indeed, it was noted that one resident had previous experience as an entertainer, and team members consulted with them to suggest performers, meet with entertainers and fulfilled their wish of organising an 'Oscars' award night, where they were integral in selecting the award categories, décor and the refreshments.

The report noted that residents receive personalised care from team members who know them well, and engage with them at every opportunity. The report also remarked that residents are supported and treated with dignity and respect, with team members offering care which is compassionate and kind. One resident said: "I get on very well with the staff here" and "[Staff are] kind and very respectful and are very caring.”

In the report, it was observed that residents are supported to have the maximum choice and control of their lives. Residents are supported to maintain relationships with friends and relatives, who are welcome to visit at any time. Residents also commented on how they felt safe at Cheviot Court, with one relative saying: "I have no complaints, it's first class … [family member] is safe."

Commenting on the ‘Good’ rating, Louise Damms, home manager at Cheviot Court, said: “Creating a welcoming home-from-home feel, and making sure every resident receives the best possible care, is our absolute priority. Everyone here at Cheviot Courtworks incredibly hard to provide residents with compassionate, person-centred care, and I’m delighted that our efforts have been recognised by the CQC’s inspectors.

“I’m extremely proud of the team and would like to say thank you for their hard work and dedication, which I know is also greatly appreciated by residents and their families.”
