Edinburgh care home aims to raise stroke awareness with free event

The team at Murrayside is inviting the local community to its free ‘Stroke Awareness’ event.

On Thursday 19th September, from 2pm-4pm, Care UK’s Murrayside, at 34 South Beechwood, will be joined by community engagement manager, Wendy Armitage, from Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland, who will be on hand to help people understand the causes of stroke and its preventions. Wendy will discuss how a stroke can affect one’s daily life and advise on the support which is available locally.

After the event, visitors will have the opportunity to meet the friendly team at Murrayside and take a tour of the care home.

Murrayside home manager, Michelle Reid, said: “We know how complex it can be to care for a loved one after a stroke, and we strongly believe professional knowledge, insight and shared experiences can make a real difference. Our team here is committed to offering advice and practical support, so we are delighted to invite Wendy to the home to host our ‘Stroke Awareness’ event.

“This important subject is very close to our hearts, so we look forward to welcoming the local community to the home so we can all learn more together.”

Murrayside care home has been specially designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities, and has its own cinema, hair salon and café, all of which are well used by residents.
