Perry Manor Care Home Manager shortlisted for Regional Award

The home manager of Perry Manor, Worcester care home, is celebrating after being shortlisted as a regional finalist for the Great British Care Awards (GBCA).

Katherine Matthews, who manages Care UK’s Perry Manor, has been shortlisted for the GBCA’s Care Home Registered Manager award, designed to recognise individuals who have demonstrated excellence within their field of work.

The home, on Charles Hastings Way, provides a range of specialist care and has been rated as Outstanding by CQC inspectors. Katherine and members of the team at Perry Manor adopt a person-centred approach, advocate activity-based care and provide a range of ways in which residents can lead their lives as independently as possible, as well as ensuring personal wellbeing.

Perry Manor’s exceptional approach to care is inspired by Katherine, who encourages every member of the home’s team to holistically care for each resident. Team members are empowered and expected to take time out from their tasks to understand and address the wellbeing of the whole person – their physical, emotional, social and mental health needs.

The shortlisting recognises the quality and innovative nature of the work Katherine is doing at the home, since being appointed as home manager in 2017.

With 23 years of experience working in care, Katherine always goes the extra mile to look after people and ensures support is available for everyone, from residents to team members and relatives.

Katherine said: “I am very proud to have been shortlisted, but I am even more proud of my team and their extraordinary commitment to residents and the home. Every day we strive to enable people to have happy and fulfilled lives. We have the privilege of working in the residents’ home, which is a golden rule that must always be remembered.”

Katherine started her nursing career as a mental health nurse, where she was awarded for her work with children and young people with severe eating disorders. Prior to progressing to the position of home manager at Perry Manor, Katherine was a deputy hospital director for a specialist mental health service.

The winner of the Care Home Registered Manager award will be announced at the GBCA West Midlands Awards later in the year.
