Love is in the air – Heather View care home hosts team’s wedding celebrations

Home news

Wedding bells rang at a Crowborough care home when it hosted a special ceremony to celebrate the love of two team members.

Matt and Abbie Elie, team members at Care UK’s Heather View, on Beacon Road, tied the knot earlier this summer, and decided to recreate their wedding at the home so they could share their special day with the whole of the Heather View family.

The couple met in 2013 while working together at another care home. In 2015, they both joined the Heather View team, where their relationship continued to blossom. Matt proposed to Abbie two years later, on Eastbourne Beach, on the 9th August 2015. They officially got married in July 2019, and spent their honeymoon visiting Bath and the surrounding areas.

On the day, the home was adorned with blue and white balloons and flowers, while residents dressed up and sported their finest outfits, including frocks, fascinators and black ties. Natasha King, home manager, led the special ceremony, following a rendition of ‘All things bright and beautiful’ by Heather View’s choir, made up of residents and team members.

To top off the day, guests were treated to an afternoon tea, specially prepared by the home’s chef, and enjoyed live entertainment from local musician, Roger Channing.

Natasha said: “Matt and Abbie are an important part of our Heather View family, so everyone was thrilled when they announced they wanted to recreate their special day at the home.

“There was a real buzz around the home in the days running up to the event, and we all had a fantastic time celebrating the wedding. Residents in the choir had been practicing for weeks, and it was an honour for me to lead the ceremony. Thank you Abbie and Matt, it was a wonderful and very touching day.”

Matt added: “It was a pleasure to be able to relive our special day and share it with the residents and our colleagues. It was really important to us to ensure our Heather View family were included in our celebrations, and the choir performance was really touching – we couldn’t have dreamt of a better way to toast our wedding for the second time!”
