Local care home helps Southampton residents to understand dementia

A care home in Southampton is inviting the local community to its free, virtual event for families caring for those living with dementia.

On Wednesday 3^rd March, from 2pm-4pm, the team at Care UK’s Ancasta Grove, on Barnes Lane, will be hosting its free Understanding Dementia event via Zoom.

Dementia specialist, Dr Nori Graham, will be covering a number of topics to help people understand what it is like to live with dementia. There will also be support and practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers and discover positive approaches to living with dementia.

After the event there will be a chance to share experiences and ask Dr Nori Graham any questions.

Raymond Arnold, Home Manager at Ancasta Grove, said: “We know that it can be challenging to look after a friend or relative living with dementia. It’s natural to feel confused about the best way to help your loved one, so our event aims to offer professional knowledge and insight to those who need it – as well as providing a hub for shared experiences. 

“We want people to know they’re not alone, and we’re here to offer support. We look forward to welcoming local people to join our online event for an inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.”

For anyone unsure about how to take part in the virtual event, help is at hand. The team at Ancasta Grove will host the event using Zoom, an online meeting space. Simply call or email Customer Relations Manager, Christopher Roby, and he will send a link to join the event and can call participants to help set up Zoom ahead of the session.

Ancasta Grove, which will be opening in June 2021, has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as respite and end of life care.
