‘Mixing things up’ – Godalming care home celebrates World Cocktail Day

Home news

A care home in Godalming marked World Cocktail Day with a special event.

Care UK’s Jubilee House, on Pound Lane, hosted a cocktail making event to encourage residents to reminisce, socialise and raise a glass to cocktails!

‘Mixing things up’ – Godalming care home celebrates World Cocktail DayThe home was decorated with balloons and banners and transformed into a bar-like setting. A supply of cocktail shakers was brought in along with a plethora of colourful umbrellas and striped straws. Carefully selected glasses in a range of shapes and sizes were chosen to help inspire the cocktails and encourage the residents to remember what they might have enjoyed mixing them up in the past.

Malgo Wcislo, Home Manager at Jubilee House, said: Themed events are always popular at the home so World Cocktail Day gave us the perfect opportunity to come up with something a bit different for the residents. Cocktails from the 1950s and 1960s seemed the most popular, with gin proving a firm favourite and myself and fellow team members definitely learned some new recipes.

We had a wonderful time hosting our cocktail making session, and it was great to hear some heart-warming stories from residents – events like these are a wonderful way to encourage reminiscence, which can be really beneficial for older people, especially those living with dementia. We’d like to say a big thank you to residents for sharing their recipes with us as well as a big “Cheers!” I would definitely say a fun time was had by all”.

Jubilee House has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential care, nursing care, dementia care and respite care. There is also plenty of space, both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation. The home has a comprehensive activity programme, offering a mix of themed events and group activities.
