Call of the wild – Bromsgrove care home residents go on a virtual safari

Home news

Bromsgrove care home had a roar-some time celebrating World Endangered Species Day.

Residents at Care UK’s Chandler Court, on Recreation Road, donned their safari hats and embarked upon a virtual trail through the savannah, spotting lions, zebras and more.

During the ‘safari’, the home team created a special animal display, including tactile toy animals and photographs. Residents were encouraged to reminisce about their animal encounters at zoos, in the movies and pets they had in younger years.  Call of the wild – Bromsgrove care home residents go on a virtual safari

Peggy Pearson, a resident at Chandler Court, said: “I love all animals, it’s lovely to be able to get a close look at some of the wonderful creatures at the safari. They are so beautiful.”

Vongai Mushinga, Home Manager at Chandler Court, said: “Animals are a firm favourite with all residents, so we felt our virtual safari was a brilliant way to encourage them to reminisce while discussing issues surrounding endangered species.

“We all remember the first time we visited a zoo, cuddled a rabbit or spotted a deer in the woods – so it was great to share these memories with each other.

“We had a wonderful time hosting our virtual safari, and it was great to hear memories from residents – events like these are a wonderful way to encourage people to reminiscence, which can be really beneficial for older people, especially those living with dementia. We’re looking forward to getting our safari hats on again very soon!”
