Local care home invites Edinburgh residents to understand dementia

Home news

Three care homes in Edinburgh are inviting the local community to a free, virtual event for families caring for loved ones living with dementia.

On Wednesday 7th July, from 2pm-3.30pm, Care UK’s Lauder Lodge, Murrayside, and Cairdean House will be hosting a virtual Understanding Dementia event.Local care home invites Edinburgh residents to understand dementia

Dementia specialist, Dr Nori Graham, who is the Vice President of the Alzheimer’s Society and has extensive experience in healthcare for older people, will be covering a number of topics to help people understand what it is like to live with dementia. There will also be support and practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers and discover positive approaches to living with the condition.

Nicola Anderson, Home Manager at Lauder Lodge, said: “We know that it can be challenging to look after a friend or relative living with dementia. It’s natural to feel confused about the best way to help your loved one, so our event aims to offer professional knowledge and insight to those who need it – as well as providing a hub for shared experiences.”

Fran Long, Home Manager at Murrayside, added: “We want people to know they’re not alone, and we’re here to offer support. This event has proven popular in the past and we’re looking forward to welcoming local people virtually for an inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.

“There are only a few places remaining, so we encourage those interested to book their slot as soon as possible.”

For anyone unsure about how to take part in the virtual event, help is at hand. The teams at Lauder Lodge, Murrayside and Cairdean House will host the joint event using Microsoft Teams, which is very easy to use. Simply call or email, Customer Relations Manager, Leona Thomson, and she will send a link to join the event and share her tips to make the most out of the session.

Lauder Lodge, Murrayside and Cairdean House have been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The homes provide full-time residential, residential dementia and nursing care, as well as short-term respite.
