Crowborough care home residents share life lessons

Home news

Residents at a care home in Crowborough have shared their heart-warming advice for local youngsters.

With age comes experience, and often some good advice too, which is why residents at Care UK’s Heather View, on Beacon Road, have decided to share their life lessons in a video they created for Facebook.

The pearls of wisdom, which were shared to help future generations, included Ethel Thomas, 93 who said: “Always try very hard to be kind in your life.”

Wendy Walker, 85, said: “Always have laughter in your life.”

Jill Willcock, 87, said: “Take time to read, because reading is really important"

Kay French, 83, said: “Always be polite to grown-ups.”

87-year-old, Jill Willock commented: “The younger generation should always take advice from adults.

“If I was to give advice to my younger self it would be to spend more time learning. I wish I had, as I would like to know more.”

Home Manager at Heather View, Natasha King, said: “It was lovely to hear the advice residents shared - it prompted a fun afternoon of reminiscence for everyone involved.

“Sharing memories can be incredibly beneficial for older people, especially those living with dementia. Reflecting on strong memories from the past can help to boost confidence and offers the chance to re-live happy times, which can then prompt interesting conversations too.

“We have some fantastic people living here at Heather View, who always have so many fantastic words of wisdom to share. We learn a lot from their lifetime of experience each day, which is why their advice is so special – and often gives us all a good giggle, too.”

Heather View has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite and palliative care. The home has its own space for activities, as well as a cinema, sensory room and café.
