Windsor care home residents share advice for younger generations

Highlighted home news

Residents at a care home in Windsor have shared their heart-warming advice with local youngsters.

With age comes experience, and often some good advice too, which is why residents at Care UK’s Mountbatten Grange, on Helston Lane, have decided to share their life lessons with pupils at Clewer Green CE First School in Windsor.

The care home team helped residents write down their advice and shared the words of wisdom with the local pupils. The school had worked closely with the residents before the pandemic and had missed seeing them in person.

The pearls of wisdom included 89-year-old resident Maura’s advice to: “think before you speak” and “don’t bother about what other people think”.

Joan, aged 82 said: “Listen to your brain and don’t bother about what other people think. We all think differently, and everyone has their own opinions.”

Betty, aged 88 added: “Toleration – in marriage, tolerate and work with one and another - be happy with what you have.”

James, aged 84 advice was: “Don’t bet on odds of favourites, they’re unreliable.”

Maura said: “The children made me very happy. They reminded me of my younger days.

“The visits from Clewer Green CE First School were such a pleasure, so I loved being able to interact with the children.

“Children these days are so clever.”

The school will be displaying the advice on a board in the classroom to remind them of the great advice given to them.

Debbie Winwood, Home Manager at Mountbatten Grange, said: “It was lovely to hear the advice the residents shared with the pupils at Clewer Green CE First School.

“Here at Mountbatten Grange, we understand that intergenerational relationships have been proven to be enriching for all ages, and give older people a sense of purpose. This activity has provided a fantastic opportunity for both children and residents to learn from each other.

“We are looking forward to continue building upon our relationship with Clewer Green CE First School and we hope to see them very soon.”
