Worcester care home shortlisted for national award

Home achievement

A care home in Worcester is celebrating after being shortlisted in the Care Home Awards 2022.

Care UK’s Perry Manor, on Charles Hastings Way, has been shortlisted in the ‘Best for Specialist Care’ category, which recognises the efforts of a care home using tailored healthcare solutions to ensure residents’ specific needs are met.

The Care Home Awards recognise and reward excellence and innovation in UK care home management, operation and delivery. The winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony in July.

The team at Perry Manor has been recognised for working closely with the local CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) to identify a need in the community for specialist care, and launch a brand-new, high-needs suite to meet the care needs of the region. With 14 bedrooms, the Malvern Suite provides specialist one-to-one care for people with complex neurological conditions, including dementia.

Local people in Worcestershire with complex needs can now remain close to family who can be actively involved in their care. The suite is a home-from-home setting where residents feel safe, understood, and are uniquely cared for by a passionate and skilled team.

The service’s ethos is underpinned by the choice to only admit one new resident at a time every three weeks, as this enables the team to focus on the new resident as they settle in, while maintaining the wellbeing of other residents. As a result, the home has developed a reputation for deeply person-centred care

When appropriate, a resident can gradually be moved from the Malvern Suite to the neighbouring Cromwell Suite, to receive one-to-three support. Providing two specialist dementia suites allows team members to support the different levels of need, which means that Perry Manor offers a home for life for every resident, whatever their dementia journey.

A relative commented: “My husband was the first resident to be admitted into the suite and the support I have received throughout is amazing. I have worked very closely with the team to ensure the care he received is catered to his wants and needs – with his favourite Buddy Holly music playing all the time!”

Katherine Matthews, Home Manager at Perry Manor, added: “We are thrilled to have been shortlisted in the ‘Best for Specialist Care’ category at this years’ Care Home Awards.

“By addressing the vital need for a local service to care for people with neurological challenges, we are helping families stay closer together while loved ones receive the care they need from specialist team members while being supported to live a happy and fulfilled life.

“I am incredibly proud of all we have achieved since opening the doors to the Malvern Suite. We look forward to seeing how this unique suite continues to enhance life here at Perry Manor.”
