Bath care home residents share pearls of wisdom with a bride to be

Home news

Residents at a care home in Bath have been passing on their advice to the younger generation as part of a nationwide initiative.

Residents at Care UK’s Rush Hill Mews, on Clarks Way, have been sharing marriage advice with a team member who is set to say ‘I do’ later this month – as part of a new intergenerational project, Wisdom Booths.

The Wisdom Booths initiative sees Care UK homes share their advice with younger generations after a national survey found 88% of people in the UK are grateful for what they’ve been told by their elders and 56% will always rely on them for advice, regardless of how old they are.

Bride to be, Sharon Hopson, who is Head of Activities at Rush Hill Mews, listened to advice from 88-year-old resident Pam Mulholland, who said: “Always look on the bright side and never sleep on a quarrel. Sometimes you may have to swallow your pride, but don’t forget who’s boss! Remember a lasting marriage is based on trust and love”.

Alongside their advice, residents also shared photos from their own wedding days with Sharon, and reminisced about their favourite memories as a bride.

Caroline Carter, General Manager at Rush Hill Mews said: “It has been wonderful to see residents reminiscing about their wedding days and sharing their advice and photos with Sharon.

“Here at Rush Hill Mews, we understand the importance of taking part in reminiscence activities and this wedding advice session presented residents with a real sense of purpose – using their memories to offer guidance to our very own bride-to-be, Sharon.

“Drawing on previous experiences can help to boost confidence in older people, and provides an opportunity to re-live happy times, which can prompt conversation and positive emotions.

“Everyone at Rush Hill Mews wishes Sharon the best of luck for her big day!”
