Stroud care home residents share pearls of wisdom with local school

Home news

Residents at a care home in Stroud have been passing on their advice to the younger generation as part of a nationwide initiative.

Residents at Care UK’s Scarlet House, on Westward Road, have been sharing advice on a host of topics with children from St Matthews CofE Primary School as part of a new intergenerational project – Wisdom Booths.

The Wisdom Booths initiative sees Care UK homes across the UK share their advice with younger generations after a national survey found 88% of people nationwide are grateful for what they’ve been told by their elders and 56% will always rely on them for advice, regardless of how old they are.

The pearls of wisdom at Scarlet House included 92-year-old resident John’s advice that you should always “remember who got you to where you are when you succeed in life” and to “be grateful” for those who support you.

Lyndsey Dixon, Home Manager at Scarlet House, said: “We had a fantastic time with the pupils from St Matthews CofE Primary School.

“Here at Scarlet House, we understand that intergenerational relationships have been proven to be enriching for all ages and can offer older people a sense of purpose. Sharing years of collective wisdom has provided a fantastic opportunity for both children and residents to learn from each other.

“It has been wonderful to hear the residents’ advice to the younger generation and we look forward to seeing if the youngsters at St Matthews put it into action!”
