Solihull care home reads nursery rhymes to local children

Home news

A care home in Solihull has been helping local children unlock their imaginations and celebrate National Nursery Rhyme Week.

Residents from Care UK’s Blossomfield Grange, on Worcester Way, took a trip to the Mad Hatters Nursery to mark Nursery Rhyme Week which saw residents retell classic and new nursery rhymes.

Residents and children shared their favourite nursery rhymes including Twinkle Twinkle but, the rhyme of the day was firm favourite Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See, which children and residents read aloud together.

Commenting on the morning, resident Margaret Botterill, aged 92 said: “It was a lovely morning surprising the children with our visit.  They were very excited to see us and to sing their favourite nursery rhymes and show us their favourite toys.  I remember the traditional nursery rhymes, but it was good to hear some of the new ones too.”

Jo Hopkins, Director of Community Relations at Blossomfield Grange, said: “We had a wonderful day of storytelling with the children from Mad Hatters Nursery. Nursery rhymes are often the first key to unlocking young imaginations and nurturing a lifelong love of stories – so it was great to see everyone enjoying themselves.

“Here at Blossomfield Grange, we understand intergenerational relationships can be incredibly beneficial to both younger and older people alike and can provide residents with a wonderful sense of purpose.

“It has been heartwarming to see the residents share stories from their own childhoods and younger years with their growing families. The session certainly brought back looks of happy memories. We look forward to seeing the children from Mad Hatters Nursery again very soon.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Blossomfield Grange incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The home has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
