A care home in York has been joined by a local nursery for a fun-filled day of games.

Residents from Care UK’s Chocolate Works, on Bishopthorpe Road, were treated to a visit from the children at Little Green Rascals for a range of intergenerational activities.
The children and residents came together for singing, drawing and storytelling, with residents reading books including ‘Room on the Broom’ and ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’.
Later, everyone took to the lounge for some classic sporting games, including bean bag and hoop toss.
79-year-old resident, Tony, said: “I love when the school children come to visit. It reminds me of when my children were little. I’ve kept the drawings they gave to me and put them on the wall in my room.”
Judy Wray, Home Manager at Chocolate Works, said: “Having the children from Little Green Rascals pop in for a visit was a wonderful surprise for residents.
“Intergenerational relationships have proven to be enriching for both young and older people, as they provide an opportunity to learn from each other. It was brilliant to see beautiful friendships forming between the residents and the children.
“We are now planning to host these visits every six weeks, and everyone is looking forward to seeing the children again very soon!”
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilling lives, while also promoting independence, Chocolate Works incorporates plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies, and has its own cinema, hair and beauty salon and bar. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
