A care home in Sidcup has stepped up to support a local charity in raising money to end isolation.
The team at Care UK’s Smyth Lodge, on Frognal Avenue, is aiding Evergreen Care UK with its Step-tember charity walk – a community-wide challenge designed to raise awareness about loneliness in later life, promote active lifestyles and unite neighbourhoods in support of positive ageing.
Residents were joined by the Mayor of Bexley Councillor Christine Catterall and members of Evergreen Care UK to kick off Step-tember at the home, with the walk ending at St John’s Church.
Funds raised at the end of the month will mean the charity can continue to organise day trips, activities and events so older people can retain their independence and remain a vital part of the community.
Tracey Cheeseman, Home Manager at Smyth Lodge, said: “We are thrilled to be involved in this challenge.
“By participating in this charity walk, we will be raising funds for a cause that is really close to our hearts. Here at Smyth Lodge, we actively work towards helping residents lead happy and rewarding lives, so it was a no-brainer to get involved.”
“We want to thank everyone who has already donated and supported the cause – we are truly grateful.”
Smyth Lodge has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and enable residents to live active and fulfilling lives. The home provides full-time residential, dementia and nursing care, as well as short-term respite care, and offers luxury facilities including its very own cinema, hair and beauty salon, gym and pub.
