Old festive traditions have come to life at a care home in Chingford where residents welcomed local scouts for a day of seasonal activities.
Care UK’s Ivy Grove, on Hatch Lane joined forces with the 23rd Chingford Scouts to revisit customs from Christmases past.

Residents and Scouts worked side-by- side to craft 32 woollen gnome decorations which were donated to The Dream Factory, a charity that helps make dreams come true for children and young adults with life‑limiting or life‑threatening conditions.
Resident Christine Jones, 74 said: “It was such a joy to see the Scouts' concentration as they worked on making those little gnomes. They were all so patient and creative! The craft kept their hands busy, and it reminded me of my own younger days. I truly hope they enjoyed the time as much as I did”.
The event was part of Care UK’s ‘Step into Christmas’ initiative, which aims to revive residents’ festive traditions by encouraging them to share memories with the younger generation.
By blending storytelling, crafts and carol singing, the celebrations create a space for meaningful intergenerational connection.
Jacob Mante, General Manager at Ivy Grove said: “We love bringing people together, and inviting the 23rd Chingford Scouts to join us in celebrating Christmas traditions is a joyful way to strengthen community spirit.
“Making woollen decorations was a hit, the room was full of laughter and festive cheer. It was wonderful to see residents and the community working side by side, sharing stories, making crafts, and enjoying the season together.
“Events like this help keep our traditions vibrant and meaningful, while giving residents a precious opportunity to reminisce. A huge thank you to 23rd Chingford Scouts for coming along and making the day truly special!”
