Ionela Savulescu

Home Manager

Ionela Savulescu

As home manager, my role is to ensure the health, wellbeing and safety of everyone here at Forrester Court.

For residents, this means enabling them to express their wishes and choices that lead to fulfilling lives. For colleagues, it also means providing a positive and supportive working environment where they feel appreciated and empowered to do their best work.

I have a nursing degree and feel proud of my professional growth. It’s one of the reasons why I joined Care UK, as it is an organisation that provides opportunities for development and appreciates the real value of care. I am also immensely thankful for having supportive managers who have helped me reach this point.

As with all caring roles, you need to be trustworthy, honest and reliable. It also helps to have the courage to be innovative and be open minded to change. We are in a privileged position where we can positively impact people’s health and wellbeing, and I feel proud that families trust us to care for their loved ones.

In my spare time I’m a keen traveller.

Rommel Gestoso

Deputy Manager

I have a master’s in nursing and before my current role I was a clinical lead. I also completed Care UK’s future deputy manager programme, so I feel really proud to have reached this step in my career.

Working in care is hugely rewarding and I am happy to work in an organisation which shares the same philosophy and goals as I do, both on a personal and professional level.

As deputy manager, it is vital to work as part of a team. You also need good leadership skills and have a positive attitude, as well as be able to embrace change. It goes without saying, but you also need to be a caring and compassionate person to work in care.

I work with a marvellous and hard-working team here. Seeing everyone work so hard every day also helps me perform to the best of my ability. I want to be able to inspire colleagues while also empowering them to meet their full potential. For all of us, it’s about going the extra mile for all our residents.

I love music and in my spare time I enjoy singing and playing the piano, as well as watching movies and travelling.

Head Chef

I joined Care UK in 2020, and every day has been rewarding. As head chef, one of my favourite tasks is creating special menus for birthdays, holidays and other celebrations. Seeing the joy and excitement these events bring to residents is wonderful and fulfilling. I can honestly say I look forward to waking up bright and early to start the day ahead.

In my role, you need to have a passion for cooking (as well as strong culinary skills). It is also important to have sound knowledge of food preparation, hygiene and dietary requirements, especially when it comes to food fortification, managing restrictions and modified diets. My training includes dining with dignity, IDDSI and infection control.

A head chef can significantly impact quality of life for residents. It is not just about creating nutritious meals, it is also about making food visually appealing and accessible to everyone, regardless of dietary needs.

I used to run my own business but since being part of Care UK, I’ve noticed a much better work-life balance which has enabled me to spend more time with my family. I’m also able to travel more, which is one of my favourite pastimes.

Clinical Lead

My favourite part of being clinical lead here at Forrester Court, is the opportunity we have to make a positive difference in people’s lives. Being able to see that impact makes the role rewarding and it feels great to be a part of that.

Ultimately, we are here to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents, as well as provide high-quality care. We have an excellent clinical team here and I’m proud to create a positive and supportive environment where we can all give our best.

In this role, you have to be a strong communicator. A key part of the job is explaining complex medical information to both residents and their families. It needs to be done in a clear, concise and compassionate way. You also need to be very organised and able to manage your time affectively.

I joined Care UK because I wanted the chance to work in a challenging but rewarding environment. I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved, and that Care UK saw my potential and have supported me on my career journey.

I like to spend my time outside of work travelling and being with nature. I also enjoy the beach.

Head Housekeeper

When you’re head of housekeeping, it always feels good to get compliments about how clean, comfortable and inviting the home is from residents and their families.

In my role, you need a unique combination of skills. Strong leadership, good communication and attention to detail. It is also important to have knowledge of cleaning products and techniques to ensure you meet regulations.

As a team, it is our responsibility to keep Forrester Court safe, hygienic and hazard-free. The good health and wellbeing of everyone here, residents, colleagues and visitors is of the utmost importance. With that in mind, my training also includes infection prevention and control.

In my spare time, I enjoy football and boxing.

Maintenance

I was drawn to Care UK because it has a strong reputation for quality care and putting residents first.

I have had training in health and safety, fire safety, COSHH (control of substances hazardous to health) and manual handling. I am also trained in building and equipment maintenance, and I like to continuously update my skills to stay compliant with care home standards.

The most important part of my role is making sure Forrester Court is safe and fully functional at all times. The wellbeing of residents and colleagues depends on everything working as it should – from heating and lighting to security systems. It’s a responsibility I take very seriously.

During my working day, I like to chat with residents while I’m carrying out repairs and maintenance. It’s a lovely way to build rapport and rewarding to know that even the smallest fixes can improve someone’s day-to-day life.

We recently had a building upgrade and being recognised by my team and residents for the work and dedication put in was a proud moment for me.

Outside of work I enjoy DIY projects at home, cycling and being with my family. I also have a passion for restoring old tools and machines.
