Barbara Wilkinson

Home Manager

My favourite part of the day in my role as home manager at Harcourt Gardens is doing my walk arounds and spending time with colleagues and residents.

I enjoy being present in the home and seeing the meaningful moments that happen when people feel safe, valued and supported.

I hold a degree and Level 5 qualification in leadership and management, and before joining Harcourt Gardens I worked as the CEO of a dementia charity. Throughout my career I have learned the importance of patience, understanding and being non-judgmental. I believe a home manager should be pleasant, positive and genuinely caring, and I bring those values into my role every day.

A proud career highlight for me was creating a 1950s village as part of a dementia-friendly environment, as well as writing a book on care homes. I am equally proud to be part of a team that strives to make life better for others. The most important part of my role is being a voice and advocate for residents and colleagues whenever they need support.

Outside of work I enjoy horse riding, baking and taking care of animals.

Lisa Addyman
Lisa Addyman
Deputy Manager

My role is to support and guide colleagues so that residents feel safe and well cared for. We are a dedicated team, and it makes me proud, knowing that we have built good relationships with residents and their families.

To work in care, you need to be caring, a good listener and have empathy. Being organised and able to forward plan are essential skills too.

I have a level three in health and social care, but I previously worked in retail management. I chose to work in care because I enjoy being able to make a positive difference in people’s lives. I love nothing more than to chat with residents to make sure we’re doing everything we can to help them live a fulfilling life at Harcourt Gardens.

In my spare time, I like walking, socialising and shopping. Being with my family is very important to me too.

Jill Shearer
Jill Shearer
Customer Relations Manager

I’ve worked in the care sector for more than 40 years, mainly in care management and quality roles. Before joining Care UK, I was a senior operations manager, leading teams to deliver high standards of care.

In my current role, I support residents and their families and friends by helping them feel welcome, informed and confident in their choice of care. I bring strong knowledge of the care sector and a calm, friendly approach. Listening, understanding and offering reassurance is a key part of what I do.

What matters most to me is making sure people are happy with their experience — from their first visit, through to settling in and becoming part of the community. I believe in the quality of care at Care UK and take real pride in seeing residents feeling well looked after and at home.

Outside of work, I enjoy art, walking in the Dales and spending time with my grandchildren.

Home Administrator

I thoroughly enjoy my role as Home Administrator at Harcourt Gardens. I take pride in being an organised, approachable team member who’s always ready to help.

To succeed in this role, you need strong problem-solving skills and a good sense of humour! My favourite part of the working day is the satisfaction of ticking off the to-do list and knowing I’ve helped things run smoothly behind the scenes.

The most important part of my role is making sure all financial tasks are completed on time and to a high standard. It’s the kind of work you don’t always see, but that helps everything else in the home flow seamlessly.

A highlight in my career so far was stepping up into a regional role with my previous company, which gave me valuable experience and confidence.

Outside of work, I love spending quality time with my family.

Carers

Our hardworking teams always keep individuals and their families at the heart of the care they provide. Nurses

The nurses at Care UK are highly skilled and receive sector-leading training, which enables them to keep developing expertise in different clinical fields from dementia to palliative care.
