We understand that, when your loved one is doing things they enjoy, in an environment where they feel valued, they will feel secure, happy and fulfilled.
That’s why we find out everything we can about each new resident, so we can personalise their care and experiences to suit their unique needs and tastes. Some Scarlet House residents enjoy the familiarity of routine tasks, such as washing up or laying the table, while others enjoy keeping the gardens blooming.
Something different every day
Our lifestyle team also plans exciting group and one-to-one activities each day, from arts and crafts to our popular ‘Balls of Energy’ exercise class, dancing and music sessions to film showings. Our exercise therapist visits residents in their rooms for personalised music and movement sessions. We’re also lucky to have regular visits from local children’s nurseries, schools and Cub groups – the children come in to do activities or just to chat and spread their happiness. We sometimes go to them to watch their music and dance performances too.
Residents love animals. We now have our own budgie, – Bertie, a name chosen by residents. We’ve also had birds of prey to visit, plus spring animals and therapy dogs.
Keeping things interesting
We often theme activities: early on in the year, around the annual RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, we do bird-related crafts, including making fat balls, decorating bird houses or brushing up on our bird knowledge.
Our cinema has become so popular that we now have two film showings a day and local people are welcome to come along to join us. We also frequently host free information sessions for local family carers on issues relating to care and older age.
Our residents are passionate about giving back to their local community, and good causes as a whole. We often host coffee mornings and other events to raise money for charities such as Macmillan and Children in Need.
Our Facebook page is a great way of keeping up-to-date with what’s happening at Scarlet House care home.
Enjoying good food
Great food is always on the menu at Scarlet House. Our head chef, Claire, meets with residents to discuss what they’d like on the next season’s menu. The get-together is an event in itself, with tea and cake to help with decision making! Claire includes residents’ family recipes if she can, giving menus even greater meaning.
Dishes are prepared from the best ingredients. We cater for all tastes, diets and cultural requirements, and you can expect plenty of choice. Everyone likes to have things to look forward to, so we also plan special menus and treats to celebrate annual events like Valentine’s Day and it goes without saying that we make birthdays and anniversaries extra special for residents.
