Andrew Astin-Rae

Home Manager

Andrew Astin-Rae

I served in the Scots Guards for 25 years before moving into adult social care.

My military background gave me strong leadership skills and a calm, adaptable approach, which I now use every day to support residents and colleagues at Stanley Park.

Before joining Care UK, I worked as a Home Manager and was drawn here because of the organisation’s strong values and reputation for delivering person-centred care. I believe the most important part of my role is being supportive and understanding, ensuring good communication and teamwork throughout the home.

I would describe myself as flexible and patient. It’s important to me to make time to connect with both residents and colleagues. My favourite part of the day is sharing a laugh or a fun moment with the people around me. Seeing residents happy and enjoying themselves makes me incredibly proud.

One of the highlights of my earlier career was taking part in the Queen’s Birthday Parade and seeing different parts of the world through my military service.

Outside of work, I enjoy fishing and camping.

Sheena Henderson
Sheena Henderson
Deputy Manager

I have over 30 years of experience in the care home sector, and I joined Care UK because its vision and values aligned with my own.

In this role, you need to have good communication skills, patience, compassion, empathy, and also be a good listener. I believe it’s important for me to be available and open with colleagues, residents and relatives.

I love leading my team and making sure every one of my colleagues is on track. I’m proud to be able to make a difference in enhancing the quality of life of residents who live at Stanley Park.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and pets, including my three cats and dog.

Lifestyle Lead

I joined Care UK because I was looking for a role that offered me bigger opportunities.

As a Lifestyle Lead, I believe it’s important to always be happy and jolly, and my favourite part of the day is seeing the residents be happy too.

It was a big highlight in my career to undertake dementia training, and I am now Stanley Park’s Dementia Coach. I’m so proud to help people living with dementia to live fulfilling lives.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my grandson.

Head Chef

I’ve worked for several different companies, including The Ritz in London, but I joined Stanley Park because I wanted to bring my expertise to Care UK.

As Head Chef, I believe you need to be friendly, confident and a team player. Communicating with the residents is the most important part of my role, but I love my time in the kitchen. I feel proud when residents give me compliments for the food I cook.

Outside of work, I enjoy swimming, gardening and walking – and I love cooking at home, too.

Our experienced teams

Every day Care UK colleagues live our values of passionate, caring and teamwork to empower residents to enjoy fulfilling lives.

Carers

Our hardworking teams always keep individuals and their families at the heart of the care they provide. We work with you to shape the care your loved one receives, the food they’re served, the activities and experiences they want to do – even the ways they prefer to keep in touch with their friends and family.

Nurses

The nurses at Care UK are highly skilled and receive sector-leading training, which enables them to keep developing expertise in different clinical fields from dementia to palliative care.

Lifestyle

Our dedicated lifestyle teams work hard to organise a range of activities and events at our home. From gardening and baking to quizzes, music sessions and even live entertainment. Above all, we get to know your loved one to make sure our activities are tailored to suit their interests and hobbies.

Home support roles

From catering to maintenance, housekeeping to administration, our home support teams play a crucial part in ensuring individuals enjoy an exceptional and safe service every day.

All our teams get to know each person they care for to ensure they provide a service that’s designed around their unique needs and tastes.

Infection control

Every colleague receives training in infection prevention and control as part of their induction and updates regularly through online and in-person learning. Our dedicated IPC Champions in each home help embed safe working practices and raise awareness of hygiene standards.
