There will be entertainment all day. Entertainers include one of the home’s nurses, Tim Woodhouse, who will be playing his guitar, and there will be a large birthday cake to feed the partygoers.
There will also be a thanksgiving service in the home led by the Reverend Stephen Callis, who comes to the home fortnightly to hold his very popular service.
Hollins Park, Victoria Road, is home to 48 older people with dementia. Manager Tammy Simmons said: "We have always had an excellent reputation in the community with health professionals and families alike, because people know we really care.
"Keeping active is very important for older people – it keeps depression and boredom at bay and helps to hold back many of the symptoms of dementia. We make sure that our residents have a full programme of activities to choose from and plenty of opportunities to take part. We have frequent trips out, walks, pub lunches and lots of entertainment in the home, including arts and crafts, and we bring in outside entertainers, as well as doing tai chi to music to keep bodies and minds active."
The home’s reputation and caring approach are also due to its long-serving staff members, who have worked together over many years to create a family atmosphere. Tammy said: "I have been here since 1995. My deputy and our senior nurse joined in 1992 and our domestic supervisor was here on the day the home opened. This means our residents have a continuity of care and a depth of experience that is second to none and, just as importantly, we all have a lot of fun."
We are happy to arrange interviews with a range of experts, commentary on industry issues and site visits for filming, photography or sound recording. Please get in touch with your requirements and we will do our best to arrange a suitable response.
