Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre to mark International Nurses Day

Company news

Nurses at Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre are eagerly anticipating International Nurses Day on Sunday 12th May.

An event next Friday will see the centre announce the winner of its annual Nurse of the Year Award, which is given to the nurse who colleagues vote as having made the biggest difference to the patient experience during the past 12 months.

International Nurses Day commemorates the birth of Florence Nightingale in 1820. This year, the Royal College of Nursing is calling for people to share their stories about what makes nursing special, with a dedicated website celebrating the great work nurses do every day to help improve people’s lives.

Sandra Swarbrook, clinical services manager at Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre, said: “Every year we celebrate the contribution our nurses make and they’re a big reason why our patients are so happy. Patient satisfaction scores at the centre have always been above 95 percent and I know I speak for everybody here when I say we really appreciate the dedication of our nurses.”

Patient Christine Kirkby, a 74-year old former nurse from Clowne, echoes Sandra’s sentiments about the wonderful work done by the team at Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre. In September last year she spent four nights at the centre for a knee replacement operation and in 2011 had undergone a successful hip replacement there.

Christine said: “I was a nurse for 40 years and I always had very high standards, so if anyone should know what good care is it’s me. That’s why I would recommend Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre to anyone because the care there is second-to-none.

“On both occasions my care was brilliant – I can’t fault it. The people there were lovely and I honestly couldn’t have been cared for any better. Everyone I met there was fantastic. They explained everything they were going to do, answered all my questions and involved me in the whole process. I felt I was a part of everything that was going on around me.

“They were extremely attentive. It didn’t matter what I wanted, they were there for me. The food was excellent too. In fact if I had gone to a hotel I couldn’t have received better treatment.”

Care UK, which runs Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre on behalf of the NHS, employs thousands of nurses in England and Scotland. Their hard work has helped the organisation to achieve zero cases of MRSA or C. difficile in all its healthcare services, which include GP surgeries, offender health facilities, treatment centres, urgent care and walk-in centres.
