On Friday June 21, Care UK’s homes joined hundreds of others around the country opening their doors for the first National Care Home Open Day, and in County Durham we took the opportunity to join in the celebrations.
At Ventress Hall, in Trinity Road, Darlington, we were very happy to welcome local groups supporting the elderly and those with dementia and we all enjoyed the entertainment.
Manager Judy Wray said: “We were delighted to see new faces during the open day, and it was a real pleasure to show people round.”
At Kings Court care home, in Market Place, Barnard Castle, our manager Mitch Lloyd said: “We focused on supporting the Teesdale Marie Curie Support Group, and everyone enjoyed the tea party we held. Their nurses’ work was on show, and we also had a display of our own work.”
A miniature pony stole the show at Church View care home in Murton, near Seaham, when local school children and other visitors came along for a fete and to see our work. Manager Dorothy Marlow said: “We were glad to be able to give practical advice on supporting loved ones with dementia.”
As well as showing visitors around our homes we also gave away copies of the brand new book As Easy As ABC: Care UK’s Top 100 Hints and Tips for Activity Based Care. If you would like to learn more about ABC and how it can improve older people’s independence and wellbeing you can download it from www.careuk.com.
