Summer fun comes to care homes in Surrey

Home news

On Friday June 21, Care UK’s homes joined hundreds of others around the country opening their doors for the first National Care Home Open Day, and in Surrey we took the opportunity to join in the celebrations.

A traditional tea party and fun day entertained our guests at Broadwater Lodge in Godalming, with staff welcoming visitors into the handsome grounds and to look round the home. Manager Angela Bookham said: “We are always glad to have visitors and I think everyone enjoyed the day.”

Maypole dancing by staff at Jubilee House was one of the attractions on offer, along with a coconut shy and songs from local schoolchildren. Acting Manager Guy Chappelle said: “We all enjoyed the preparations for the day, and the event itself went with a real swing.”

At Kingsleigh our visitors took part in games and activities, as well as enjoying a barbecue. Wendy Dodimead said: “Residents helped to plan the event and took part enthusiastically!”

The barbecue at Stanecroft care home was fired up too and manager Pamela Norman said: “We really enjoyed meeting all our visitors and it was a great opportunity to show them what we do.”

As well as showing visitors around we also gave away copies of the brand new book As Easy As ABC: Care UK’s Top 100 Hints and Tips for Activity Based Care. If you would like to learn more about ABC and how it can improve older people’s independence and wellbeing you can download it from www.careuk.com.
