Billingham home on the touchline to support fundraising marathon

Home news

Residents from Care UK’s Hadrian Park will be taking to the touchline on Saturday (23 November) to support players who have taken on a 24-hour football challenge to raise money for the Jo & Mya Memorial Fund.

Sixteen players have signed up to be part of a 24-hour marathon football challenge in Seaton Carew that begins on Friday. Care UK has sponsored the shirts for the challenge that will raise money for the charity to benefit children who have lost loved ones.

The charity was started by Ian Richardson in memory of his wife and daughter who were killed in a road accident in 2010 and Ian and his two-year-old daughter Ava have dedicated themselves to raising funds.

Denise Findley, who manages the home in Marsh House Avenue, said: “The Jo & Mya Memorial Fund and the sad story behind it are well known to us all in Billingham, and our residents, being local people involved in the community, were delighted when we had the opportunity to support the event through sponsoring the football shirts.

“A good cause and a game of football - it would be impossible to keep many of our residents away! So we will be getting out the minibus on Saturday morning and heading down to the ground to support the players.

“I think we will probably be taking down a few flasks of tea to keep us warm and in full voice as we cheer on the lads and the charity.”
