Care home team celebrates top marks in NVQ and CQC assessments

There were celebrations at Care UK’s Jubilee House as colleagues passed exams, the final phase of a two-year refurbishment programme completed and a national watchdog gave the home its seal of approval.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) report follows an unannounced visit to the home in Godalming that provides specialist care for residents living with dementia – many of who have not been able to settle in at other care homes.

During the visit, CQC inspectors found that all five national standards were met and residents’ relatives explained that the home was always fresh – thanks to the team working hard to keep their relative’s environment scrupulously clean.

Gill Dyer, whose sister lives at the home, said “The whole team is really friendly and welcoming. I looked at a number of other care homes for my sister but didn’t get the same warm feeling as I do from Jubilee House. It’s a great benefit for me and my family to know that she’s well looked after and we’re all extremely happy with the home.”

Care UK has invested over £400,000 in a refurbishment programme at Jubilee House which has seen new baths provided throughout, rooms and communal areas redecorated and refurnished, a new bistro for casual dining and other facilities updated.

Zani Agnew, whose husband is a resident, is delighted with the refurbishment. She particularly loves the bistro and thinks the new furniture in the home is lovely. She said: “The beds are also really comfortable.”

Gráinne Wokes, home manager at Jubilee House, explained that the refurbishment had not only benefited the residents and team members, but the local community too.

She said: “We discovered there was a lady living nearby who hadn’t been able to enjoy a bath for two years because the one at her home wasn’t suitable. Now she comes in each week to use the facilities and for a chat and she feels a great deal better for it.”

Colleagues at the home have also been celebrating after receiving their certificates for NVQ’s in health and social care.

Care UK is committed to training its teams to provide the best possible care and in addition to comprehensive in-house training it offers people the opportunity to study for national qualifications.

Gráinne said: “I am very proud of my team. They give their all to providing first class care day in, day out and they still find the energy to study. They do it because they know they can and do make a difference to the lives of people living with dementia and that’s a wonderful reward.”
