Afternoon of dementia support at Cheadle care home

Company news

Care UK is inviting people in Cheadle and surrounding areas to find out more about dementia at a free seminar on Tuesday 24th February.

It will take place at De Vere Venues Hotel on Cheadle Royal Business Park from 10:30am-12 noon and is also an opportunity for members of the public to meet the team at Care UK’s new £9.2million care home, Abney Court.

Mark Harrison, dementia specialist trainer at Care UK, will lead the free event to share his knowledge and provide practical guidance for those caring for someone living with dementia. Mark will look at the realities of dementia and discuss coping mechanisms and tactics for dealing with the condition’s associated behaviours.

Mark Shockledge, home manager at Abney Court, said: “With dementia affecting 820,000 people in the UK and a startling 25 million people having a close friend or family member living with the condition, there is a real and pressing need to open up access to professional support and information, and to ensure there are places people can go where they can share individual experiences. By hosting a free seminar on the subject, we can provide people in Cheadle and surrounding areas with expert advice and give them a chance to find out more about dementia services in the area.”

Abney Court is set to open in May 2015 and the marketing suite is now open daily at Abney Hall. Abney Court has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives with features including a café, a cinema room, a hairdressing salon and library. There will also be a sun-filled garden room and wheelchair-friendly landscaped gardens.

Abney Court’s marketing suite, located at Abney Hall, is open daily from 10am-4pm. For more information, contact home manager Mark Shockledge by emailing mark.shockledge@careuk.com or calling 0333 321 1922.
