Care UK wellbeing foundation announces new support for Colchester-based charity

A body set up by Care UK to support good causes has just entered into a three year partnership with the Rob George Foundation – an Essex charity providing support for young people diagnosed with a life-threatening condition or those who demonstrate exceptional commitment or ability in the worlds of sport or the performing arts.

Care UK set up its wellbeing foundation two years ago as a way of giving thousands of pounds to charities every year. Since then, almost 20 grants have been given to charities around the country that support the arts helping to promote wellbeing in local communities. This is the first time that the wellbeing foundation has offered a three year partnership.

The announcement was shared with a group of over 50 colleagues at Care UK’s support office on Colchester Business Park, when trustees Philip and Lorraine George visited to talk about the work of the Rob George Foundation.

Rosemary Harvey, secretary of the Care UK wellbeing foundation, said: “We were really impressed with the way that the Rob George Foundation supports young people to pursue their dream of excelling in the arts or sport, particularly those youngsters who might otherwise have to give up their goal because of their financial situation. This, coupled with the fact that they are based very close to our support office in Colchester, meant they were a natural partner charity for us for the next three years.”

As well as a donation of £1,500 each year for three years, the people behind the Care UK wellbeing foundation are also encouraging Colchester-based Care UK colleagues to do their bit to support the Rob George Foundation.

Andrew Knight, managing director for Care UK’s Residential Care Services, said: “People working in our Colchester support office have always been very generous and keen to raise money for good causes, such as MacMillan Cancer Support and the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. After hearing Lorraine George speak about the Rob George Foundation so movingly at the meeting on Tuesday, I’m sure some of my colleagues will want to get involved with this brilliant local charity as well – perhaps through a fundraising event here in our office or helping the charity out in practical ways.”

Philip George from the Rob George Foundation said: “We’re thrilled to have been chosen as the first long term charity partner of the Care UK wellbeing foundation. We look forward to an exciting three years as we work together to continue Rob’s living legacy as we endeavour to make a difference – one individual at a time.”

The Care UK wellbeing foundation is still inviting grass roots charitable initiatives that promote wellbeing through the arts to apply for one-off grants of between £50 and £2,000.
