School children get crafty for new care home

Home news

Local school children have created eye-catching artwork to decorate the building site of Ware’s newest care home.

Students from Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School were invited by Care UK to get creative with a piece of artwork based around who they care about. This is now on display on the hoardings surrounding the Care UK construction site on Baldock Street.

The year four pupils who designed the artwork visited the site to see their drawings up on display, with the help of site contractors, Lawrence Baker.

The £6.5 million purpose-built care home, which will provide residential, nursing and dementia care, and short-term respite care for up to 70 older people in Ware, is due to open in the summer.

Tim Parker, construction project manager for Care UK, said: “We are new to the area, so what better way to introduce ourselves to the local community than by collaborating with Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School on a lovely art project to brighten up our hoardings.

“We were delighted to welcome the children to the site to see their pictures displayed as it is important for us to develop relationships with the local community from day one. We look forward to working with the school on more projects in the future.”

Ruth Manning, year four teacher at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, added: “We were thrilled when Care UK asked us to be part of their exciting new venture here in Ware. The children had a great time creating the artwork and love seeing it on display on their walk to school each day.”

Chris Seymour, site manager for Lawrence Baker, said: “Lawrence Baker is committed to engaging with local communities, so we were more than happy to invite pupils to creatively decorate our hoarding. They’ve done a fantastic job and we’re really pleased with the site’s new look.”

The new three-storey care home, which will feature 70 ensuite bedrooms, has been designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities and will include its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café.
