Weald Heights show its ‘good nature’ with wildlife trust donation

Weald Heights recently donated accessibility benches to Kent Wildlife Trust.

The team at Weald Heights donated the benches to Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve to provide seating for those with limited mobility in the picnic area.

Residents and the team visited the wildlife center to see the two new benches in use. Everyone tucked into ice-cream and tea, before doing a spot of bird-watching from the bird hide.  

The benches have been specially designed so that wheelchairs can comfortably fit underneath the bench.

Weald Heights home manager, Maria Covington, said: “At Weald Heights we strongly believe that everyone should be able to enjoy nature. We wanted to provide accessible seating in the picnic area so wheelchair users and those with limited mobility have somewhere to sit and take in the beautiful surroundings.

“Being outdoors and close to nature can be incredibly therapeutic for older people, providing many benefits including the opportunity to reminisce and talk about fond memories of spending time in the great outdoors in younger years. It was wonderful to take the residents to the wildlife reserve to enjoy an ice cream while taking in the natural landscape and enjoying a spot of birdwatching.”

Amanda Hedges, Sevenoaks visitor center manager, said: “We’re really grateful to Weald Heights for donating the accessibility benches to the center. Nature is something that can be appreciated by all, irrespective of age or physical mobility, so it’s great that even more people can enjoy the wildlife reserve and appreciate the natural beauty here in Sevenoaks.”
