Birdwatch a flying success at Weald Heights

Home news

Weald Heights had bird-feeders filled and binoculars at the ready when it took part in this year’s RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, with the help of some special guests.

Residents at Weald Heights participated in the annual wildlife survey, and recorded the number of birds, as well as other wildlife species, they spotted in their garden.

The home was joined by pupils from Lady Boswells Primary School for an afternoon of wildlife arts and crafts in honour of the birdwatch. Pupils and residents enjoyed creating paintings of trees and birds.

Maria Covington, home manager at Weald Heights said: “The birdwatch is a popular activity with our residents every year, so we were delighted to welcome Lady Boswells Primary School to join us for the big event. All of the residents enjoyed taking part, learning more about the wildlife in our garden, and interacting with the pupils.

“Outdoor activities are important for both physical and mental wellbeing, and have many benefits for older people, particularly for those who are living with dementia. Birdwatching can act as a valuable reminiscence activity, as the distinctive sights and sounds of birds in the garden can help evoke memories. This year was another success, and we’d like to thank Lady Boswells Primary School for joining us.”
