Local school joins Tall Trees for tropical open day

There were celebrations all round when the team at Tall Trees welcomed the local community in for a day of Hawaiian party fun with art-themed activities and games.

Local school joins Tall Trees for tropical open day

The team at Tall Trees, on Mile End Road, was joined by local people for Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.

This year’s theme celebrated the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.

Residents and visitors, which included the pupils of Rainbow Preschool, enjoyed a Hawaiian art-themed party with live music from Gwyn Pritchard, who performed classic hits from the 50s, 60s and 70s. The team dressed in Hawaiian shirts and flower garlands, and visitors were also treated to art and craft activities in the garden.

As part of a nationwide competition for all Care UK homes, Tall Trees developed a work of art in the lead up to the open day, which was showcased at the event.

Alice Banda, home manager at Tall Trees said: “We had a fantastic day enjoying live music and spending time with the children from Rainbow Preschool.

“Singing and dancing can be a powerful reminiscence activity, and our event certainly brought back a lot of memories. It was great to hear about the memories sparked by the genres of music the residents enjoy – and even learn a dance move or two!”
