International expert teams up with Eye care home to help locals understand dementia

Home news

A care home in Eye is inviting the community to a free, virtual event for families caring for loved ones living with dementia.

On Wednesday 26th January, from 2pm-3.30pm, Care UK’s Hartismere Place, on Castleton Way, will be hosting a virtual Understanding Dementia event.

Dementia specialist, Dr Nori Graham, who is the Vice President of the Alzheimer’s Society and has extensive experience in healthcare for older people, will be covering a number of topics to help people understand what it is like to live with dementia. There will also be support and practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers and discover positive approaches to living with the condition.

Marie Reeve, Home Manager at Hartismere Place, said: “There are currently 900,000 people living with dementia in the UK – and it is estimated that a further 209,600 individuals will develop it this year alone*. We know that this also means many families will be affected too, so our event aims to offer professional knowledge and insight to those who need it – as well as providing a hub for shared experiences.

“It can be challenging to look after a friend or relative living with dementia, and we want people to know they’re not alone, and we’re here to offer support. This event has proven popular in the past and we’re looking forward to welcoming local people virtually for an inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.”

For anyone unsure about how to take part in the virtual event, help is at hand. The team at Hartismere Place will host the event using Teams, which is very easy to use. Simply email Senior Customer Relations Manager, Angela Hodge, and she will provide the link and instructions on how to take part.

Hartismere Place has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, residential dementia, as well as short term respite care.
