Ware care home chosen as part of prestigious celebration of culture

Home news

A Ware care home was delighted to welcome the Mayor of Ware as part of a prestigious celebration of culture.

Care UK’s Snowdrop House, on Baldock Street, welcomed Councillor Ian Kemp, the Mayor of Ware, to plant a Saksura Cherry Tree donated to the home as part of a special project to celebrate the Japan-UK Season of Culture.

Providing an opportunity to learn about Japan, 6,500 Saksura Cherry Trees have been given to the UK by the country to be planted in parks, gardens and schools, with Snowdrop House chosen as a Hertfordshire recipient.

The project was formally launched by HRH The Duke of Gloucester, patron of the Japan Society, who planted the first tree at The Regent’s Park.

Clare Crow, Home Manager of Snowdrop House, said: “We were delighted to be chosen to receive a Saksura Cherry Tree in celebration of Japan and the UK’s wonderful relationship, and to have Councillor Ian Kemp take part in the official tree planting.

“Residents enjoy spending a lot of time in the garden during the warmer months, looking at the flowers, and the cherry tree makes a beautiful addition to our garden. It’s sentiment also provides a great opportunity to prompt conversation and learn more about the Japanese culture.”

The Duke of Gloucester added: “What better way to commemorate the long-standing friendship between the people of the United Kingdom and Japan than the planting of Japanese cherry trees that will live on for future generations to enjoy.   I would like to congratulate all of those involved to make possible such a worthwhile project.”

Snowdrop House delivers a full range of residential and nursing care for older people, including short-term respite care, and specialist care for people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
