The royal treatment – Hampshire care home residents celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in style

Home news

Residents at two care homes in Hampshire have been enjoying a Platinum Jubilee celebration fit for a queen.

Care UK’s Carpathia Grange, in Hythe, and Sway Place, in Sway, have marked the Queen’s official 70-year milestone by celebrating with garden parties with family and friends.

Carpathia Grange’s garden party saw guests enjoy an afternoon tea made by the home’s head chef, while listening to entertainer Steve-Lee sing songs from across the decades.

The home has recently received a letter from The Queen and her Lady in Waiting, Richenda Elton, thanking them for the birthday cards residents sent to The Queen earlier this year.

At Sway Place, the team decorated the gardens in Union Jack flags, balloons and bunting, while family and friends were specially invited to the celebrations and were treated to high tea and live music, which got everyone in the part spirit.

Pooja Dhoot, Home Manager at Carpathia Grange, added: “We had a wonderful time celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee here at Carpathia Grange.

“For older people, and those living with dementia, reminiscing about key milestones, such as previous jubilee celebrations, can help bring back happy memories, as well as prompting conversation and connection with those around them. These positive feelings gained from revisiting fond memories can help decrease stress, reduce agitation, and improve mood.

Rachel Bedford, General Manager at Swat Place, also said: “We have many royalists here at Sway Place who were keen to mark the Queen’s incredible reign and celebrate in style. Everyone had a fantastic time, and we’re already planning our next royal knees up!”
