Norwich care home shortlisted for two awards

A care home in Norwich is celebrating after being nominated for two prestigious industry honours.

Care UK’s Cavell Court, on Dragonfly Lane in Cringleford, is a finalist in the collaboration in social care category, while home manager Pedro Campos has been recognised for outstanding leadership at the 2025 Norfolk Care Awards.

These accolades celebrate excellence across the care sector, recognising individuals, teams and organisations that go above and beyond to deliver outstanding support. With categories covering residential and nursing care as well as voluntary and community support, the awards highlight best practice and the people making a real difference in residents’ lives.

Pedro, who began his care journey as a nurse in Portugal before joining Cavell Court in 2015 as a care assistant, has progressed to home manager through dedication and hard work.

He is praised for his creative and innovative approach to care, from facilitating resident wishes through Care UK’s Wishing Tree initiative – such as trips to see Norwich City FC, a day of golf coaching or attending the opera at Norwich Cathedral – to introducing initiatives at the home like a gardening club, which produces herbs, vegetables and other ingredients for the kitchen team.

Pedro said: “It’s all about the residents at Cavell Court and recognising their needs.”

His guidance has been recognised by colleagues, with one team member noting: “He understands that leadership is about people, and it is this understanding that has earned him the trust and respect of the entire team as well as the residents and their relatives.”

Cavell Court is collaborating with the National Institute for Health Research and the Applied Research Collaboration East of England at the University of East Anglia on the OPTIMISED-DEMCARE study. The purpose of the project is to develop an educational platform to help care staff improve personal care and manage refusals of care for people living with advanced dementia.

Chosen for its inclusive culture, Cavell Court is sharing the experiences of staff, residents and relatives to ensure the research reflects real-world care and informs practical training solutions. This commitment to excellence is a key reason the home was shortlisted for the Norfolk Care Award.

Participation in this study has also given residents and relatives a sense of purpose, while colleagues have valued the opportunity to contribute their expertise to a project with the potential to improve dementia care nationally.

Pedro added: “We’re thrilled to be named a finalist in the collaboration in social care category, and I’m personally honoured to be recognised for outstanding leadership.

“The team works tirelessly every day and is committed to advancing care through the OPTIMISED-DEMCARE study. They certainly deserve recognition, and we’re all keeping our fingers crossed for a win on 15th October.”

Cavell Court is a modern care home that provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the building has its very own cinema, café and hair and beauty salon, and there is plenty of space – both indoors and out – for relaxation and recreation.
