Katie Cliff

Home Manager

Katie Cliff

My favourite part of each day is seeing residents happy.

It’s the most important part of what we do, and it fills my heart with joy, knowing that they feel seen and heard.

We aim to make every day fulfilling. To do that you need a good dose of patience, understanding, compassion and empathy. You also need to be an effective listener and be willing to help. Having a great sense of humour is a definite bonus too.

It is important to me that my colleagues feel supported so that they can be the best they can be. At Mayfield View, we work as a harmonious team, maintaining high standards no matter what day or time it is. I feel really proud of the home I have helped create. It is a safe, stable and comfortable home with much love in it.

I’ve been a qualified nurse for 15 years and completed my last level five diploma in 2016. I have worked in care homes since qualifying and have carried out various roles including clinical lead and deputy manager.

I would say a career highlight for me was when I managed to complete a leadership training programme while pregnant. I also had an article published by Skills for Care, which helps develop adult social care in England . I should also mention, I won the CEO Recognition Award in 2024 in our team awards which was an honour.

I’ve been married now for seven years, and my husband and I have two children, aged six and two. We enjoy lots of family adventures and eating out when we can.

Clinical Deputy Manager

In my role, being friendly is one of the most important qualities to have. Not just from a caring perspective, but so that people feel at ease and confident that they’ll be listened to and taken seriously. Being calm also helps. It provides reassurance and builds trust and supports professional relationships.

I earned a first-class honours degree in adult nursing in 2018 and have previously worked on NHS wards. Moving to a care home was a big change for me, but it’s been such a highlight. Even on the most stressful days, being with residents reminds me of why we’re here.

One of the best parts of what I do now, is the interaction we have with residents and their families. Everyone feels comfortable enough to pop in and say hello or ask for a little update. We also do a lot of community events and activities and have welcomed lots of local groups into the home.

Bringing the wider community into Mayfield View has been so positive. It shows people the support and kindness we offer and has increased awareness of the home and what we do.

I am so proud of the team here and the care and compassion they show, particularly with our end-of-life care. Their efforts have been officially recognised as exceptional with a team award. We also have families that come back to us so that we can support other relatives. I think this really underlines the outstanding care we provide.

In my spare time, I love walking and being outdoors. I also enjoy going to the theatre and watching live music.

Residential Deputy Manager

To work in care, you need to be passionate about putting the needs of residents first. In my role, you also need to set a good example and live the values you want your team to have. For me, that means treating others with respect and supporting residents with a holistic approach to their care. I’m proud of the fact we can go home and know that we’ve made a positive difference to residents’ lives.

As deputy manager, it is also up to me to supervise and support colleagues, enabling them to deliver the best care they can. One thing I like to do is to come in a little early each morning so I can catch up with our night team during their handover session.

I have also been studying and have finished my level four in adult social care. I am now enrolled at Leeds Beckett University and hope to complete my training to become a registered nurse in the next couple of years . I have also completed a level four in management.

When I’m not working or studying, I enjoy cooking and walking. I often like to stop off in a café for a nice leisurely coffee too. I am also planning to adopt a cat.

Customer Relations Manager

My career background is in sales and marketing, and I was a sales and operations manager before joining the team here. I chose to join Care UK because the role looked really interesting, and I could draw on a lot of my previous sales experience.

As customer relations manager, you need to be friendly, approachable and hard-working.

The best part of the day for me is walking around the home and chatting with residents and getting to know them; it’s wonderful to see people smile and have fun.

Mayfield View has a great team; it’s lovely to see people enjoy their work. I am really proud to be part of the team here and working with colleagues to achieve goals.

At home, I’m a busy mum but also enjoy gardening and looking after our whippet.

Wellbeing Lead

Before joining Care UK, I worked as a Deputy Manager in a low secure hospital and have experience supporting people with dementia, learning disabilities and autism. I stayed with Care UK through the transition from Springfield Healthcare, and I’m now proud to lead the Wellbeing team at Mayfield View.

I’ve completed dementia training and have a care background, which has helped me understand the needs of the residents deeply. I’m friendly, compassionate and love connecting with people.

For me, the most important part of my role is helping residents live fulfilled lives and building strong, meaningful relationships with them and their families.

What I love most are those special, shared moments with residents, seeing them laugh, learn new skills or take part in activities that bring them joy. One of my proudest moments was winning the SARAs Wellbeing Award in 2023, which recognised the impact of our work.

Outside of work, I’m a full-time mum and enjoy walking, swimming and going to the gym. Staying active keeps me energised and ready for each day.

Reception Lead

My favourite part of my working day in the reception at Mayfield View is meeting and greeting visitors. I take pride in supporting families and friends during both happy and challenging times. It’s really important to me that everyone feels welcomed and reassured. I also enjoy the administrative side of my role, ensuring the team has everything they need to make each day a success.

I’m proud to be part of such a wonderful team at Mayfield View. With my friendly, compassionate nature and strong administrative background, I love making sure everything runs smoothly.

I’m passionate about creating a welcoming atmosphere here at Mayfield View and making sure that residents and their visitors feel comfortable and cared for.

Outside of work, I enjoy going to the gym, though not as often as I should! I’m also learning Italian, which is a fun challenge. One of my proudest achievements at work was being named Employee of the Year at Q-Park for two years in a row – a recognition I’m still very proud of.

Housekeeping Lead

My favourite part of my working day is seeing all residents happy and knowing that the work I do contributes to their comfort and wellbeing. I’m proud to lead a team that maintains the highest standards and makes residents and colleagues feel safe, knowing they can always count on me.

I’ve spent 20 years as an operations manager in the hotel industry, where I developed a strong work ethic and a passion for maintaining high standards.

One of my career highlights was achieving the Right to Trade certificate from Leeds City Council when I ran a hotel. After being interviewed and demonstrating how we ensured our hotel’s safety after COVID, I was proud to have our business officially recognised as safe to reopen.

I joined Care UK because I wanted to make a positive difference to the lives of all residents and ensure we continue to provide an exceptional environment for them.

For me, the most important part of my role is ensuring the highest standards are upheld and knowing that I’m always here for both residents and colleagues, making a difference every day.

Outside of work, I enjoy decorating and restoring old furniture, as well as spending time with my family, especially my grandchildren.
