Heather View celebrates arty open day

There were celebrations all round when the team at a Heather View welcomed the local community in for a day of art-themed fun and games.

The team were joined by local people for Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.

This year’s theme celebrated the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.

On the day, residents and visitors had the opportunity to polish their artistic skills in a pottery workshop with artist Deborah Thompsett, and were treated to a musical performance from soprano singer Alessandra Testay and lute player Robin Jeffrey.

There was also plenty of art on display, with photography galleries from Beacon Academy students, Rachel Withing, and Heather View team member Andrea Butler, who showcased safari-themed images, alongside a collection of artworks created by residents.

As part of a nationwide competition for all Care UK homes, Heather View also developed a work of art in the lead up to the open day, which was unveiled at the event.

Natasha King, home manager at Heather View, said: “We had a fantastic time celebrating Care Home Open Day atHeather View. The residents really enjoyed showcasing their artistic skills, and it was brilliant to see so many of our neighbours come along for the party.

“Care Home Open Day is all about building bridges with our local community, and showing what life in a care home is really like, and we certainly had fun doing so. We would like to say a big thank you to the people of Crowborough for celebrating with us.”
