Team member at Hale Barns care home shortlisted for national award

Highlighted home news

A Hale Barns care home is celebrating after a team member was shortlisted for a national accolade.

Jade Loton, a Paragon Skills Apprentice and Carer at Care UK’s Halecroft Grange, on Hale Road, has been nominated in the ‘Breakthrough Apprentice of the Year’ category at this year’s Our Health Heroes Awards.

The awards, organised by training provider, Skills for Health, reward the achievements of its learners who go above and beyond expectations. Nominees are invited to the awards ceremony which is taking place on 24 March at the London Science Museum.

Since becoming a carer in 2020, Jade has been no stranger to awards and accolades, having been named ‘Employee of the Month’ in her first month at the home, before scooping ‘Carer of the Year’ award just twelve months later. The secret to Jade’s success – despite her young years – is her person-centred approach to resident care, which has enabled her to make a huge difference to the lives of those living with dementia in her care.

Commenting on her nomination, Jade said: “I’m thrilled to be nominated for Breakthrough Apprentice of the Year! I really enjoy the course as it enables me to contextualize the work I do at Halecroft Grange. I’m keen to continue putting into action what I am learning to ensure residents receive the highest levels of care possible.”

Suzi Sumegi, General Manager at Halecroft Grange, said: “The Our Health Heroes Awards are a brilliant opportunity for young individuals to showcase their commitment and dedication to learning. We’re thrilled Jade has been nominated for such a prestigious award.

“Whether it’s sitting down to look at photos of family and friends, putting on residents’ make up or simply sharing a cup of tea and a chat, by carrying out activities on a one-to-one basis Jade has found the skill of connecting with those living with dementia in a meaningful way..

“Jade’s caring and kind-hearted nature has been transformational for residents and their loved ones too. One resident’s family member went out of her way to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jade for making sure that her mother always looks and feels a million dollars – putting her mind at rest that she’s in the safest of hands.

“There are huge advantages to growing your own talent in a care home, as it leads to a fantastic continuity of care. We’re delighted that Jade has been recognised for this accolade – she works extremely hard, and this is greatly appreciated by residents and their families.

“I would like to thank Jade and the rest of the team for all their hard work in making Halecroft Grange a wonderful place to live for all residents – every person is such a valuable part of the team and I really appreciate their commitment to the home.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Halecroft Grange, which remains open to potential residents, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The building has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.

Formerly known as Sunrise of Hale Barns, Halecroft Grange provides luxury, life-enabling care for older people. The highly trained, professional team delivers permanent and short-term residential, dementia and respite care.
