Ipswich care home praised by national care inspectors

Home achievement

An Ipswich care home has received the seal of approval from a national care watchdog, with relatives and residents praising its caring team members.

The Care Quality Commission, England’s regulator of health and social care, gave Care UK’s Prince George House, on Mansbrook Boulevard, an overall ’Good’ rating, following an unannounced inspection.

Inspectors commended team members for their holistic approach to care, highlighting strong relationships with residents and a focus on supporting independence. The team’s dedication to individual, person-centred care was also noted – for example, one resident has been provided with a kettle in their room to encourage them to independently make their own hot drinks, following a thorough risk assessment and ample safety checks.

The report praised the purpose-built home, designed to meet resident’s needs while being decorated to reflect local history and provide a welcoming and comfortable environment. Residents were regularly involved in decisions made around the home, and encouraged to decorate their own rooms to their individual taste. One resident explained how they had chosen to bring their own bed, as they preferred a higher frame.

Prince George House also has a specialist dementia champion, who leads a ’Twilight Club’ to support those living with dementia in the evenings. The club provides tailored activities and assistance for those who stay up later, as well as extra snacks, with one relative explaining that treats such as ’fish and chips had been enjoyed’ on some evenings.

Jennie Rodger, Home Manager at Prince George House, said: ”It is incredibly important to everyone who works at Prince George House that we provide the highest standard of care possible for both residents and their families. We work hard to make the home a warm and friendly place, and we’re delighted that this has been reflected by our latest CQC inspection.

”I would like to say a big thank you to the whole team, on behalf of myself, residents and relatives, for their hard-work and dedication to ensuring Prince George House is a wonderful place to call home.”

To assess standards at Prince George House, the Care Quality Comission inspectors spoke with team members, residents, and their visiting relatives on the day of inspection. They also reviewed the records and procedures in place at the care home.

Prince George House is a modern purpose-built care home providing full-time residential, nursing, and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has a choice of lounges and dining rooms, along with facilities such as an activity room, cinema and hair salon.
