Driving Quality Care at Highmarket House

Driving quality care at Highmarket House

At Highmarket House, we are dedicated to delivering the highest quality of service. Our internal regulatory compliance team, which includes former CQC inspectors, have closely collaborated with the leadership team to create and implement a comprehensive service improvement plan. The achievement of this plan will validate that the care we provide will be of highest standard, particularly through a service that is well-led and safe.

 Delivering a well-led service

Our team at Highmarket House is committed to providing good standards of care that promote positive outcomes for residents. In our latest CQC report, inspectors found that the home had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns and the registered manager maintained good-quality care.

  • Our management team is visible, approachable and holds regular meetings with colleagues, residents, and their loved ones. To ensure staffing levels are monitored closely and understood the registered manager is utilising the dependency assessment daily and sharing how these are planned accordingly.
  • To ensure all records are correct, the management team are conducting monthly audits of care plans and risk assessments and running regular refresher training to colleagues regarding decision documentation and personalised care planning.
  • Continuous tracking of the service improvement plan is being led by The Home Management alongside the Heads of Department. Results are being shared with the team, residents and their families.

Delivering a safe service

At Highmarket House, we are dedicated to improving people’s lives while protecting their right to live in safety, free from harassment, abuse and neglect. In our latest CQC report, inspectors found the home had safeguarding processes in place and people could raise concerns. People felt safe and were supported to access input from healthcare professionals when they needed it. Managers and staff worked well with other professionals to achieve good outcomes for people.

We are continuing to review our systems, processes, and practices to ensure the safe delivery of care to residents living in the home:

  • Systems and checks are in place to review hand sanitizers, to ensure they are always full and available for use. Also, senior management are completing “hot spots” in hospitality areas to monitor the condition of these areas and ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Infection prevention and control (IPC) is maintained, spearheaded by the IPC Lead, care bulletins are being shared with the whole team on where PPE (personal protective equipment) is kept and continuous training in managing and preventing the spread of infection. Checks are now allocated to a member of the day and night team every day.

What others have to say

Here are just some of the comments we’ve received from family, friends and residents at Highmarket House care home.

The staff demonstrate a great deal of empathy and respect in their work… they gently encourage my loved one to clean and dress herself, but they are always on hand if she needs help. Whenever they have any concerns they phone me, they are very proactive at bringing things to my attention and they don’t hold anything back. My loved one thinks they are her friends, because that is how she is treated.

My loved one has dementia and they are very well versed on how to deal with people with dementia. They have a terrific activities program to keep the residents active and engage their minds in different ways, and it's designed to cater for people with varying capabilities... arts and crafts, day trips, entertainers coming in, exercise classes, games, they bring in owls... actual owls!

The staff are amazing! They are all regular staff and they make the time to spend one on one time with residents, to get to know them and figure out what each person likes. I regularly chat with them and I'm always kept in the loop about what's going on and invited to meetings and social events.

The staff are really kind and they all seem to enjoy their job.

I think the care has been excellent!
